"Buying Houses" lyrics

‘Buying Houses’

Ch.      We’ve been working

Raising kids,

Buying houses, buying houses

We’ve been working

Raising kids,

Buying houses, buying houses

1.         Were my parents ever wild and free

Drinking beer ‘till they could not see

Did they ever watch T.V.

Or just chill out and be carefree?

2.         I wonder if they knew it all

Acting tough and being ten foot tall

Independent and devoid of needs

Biting at the hand that feeds?

3.         Playing hard, & staying out all night

And in the morning look an awful fright

Driving fast, maybe acting bold

Thinking that they’d not grow old.

4.         Guess you and I are just the same

Different times and different game

So take it easy now, have some fun

The golden years have just begun.

Ch.      We’ve been working

Raising kids,

Buying houses, buying houses

We’ve been working

Raising kids,

Buying houses, buying houses

About my song

I believe this song reflects where those of our age group are at now. We look at our parents, some of whom have left us, and we look at our kids, who probably have some of the same thoughts. We look back too at how we used to be. It also reflects on the now dead Celtic Tiger in Ireland. We all went mad working, parenting and accumulating. Time to slow down a little now, do what we like doing, spend a little time with people, live every day, have fun! Lyrics by me and lovely mucic by John O’Grady.
