"Sacred Ground" lyrics

Sacred Ground

It’s two o’clock in the morning

I’m looking  at the stars

The waves are lapping at Killiney beach

As I pass away the hours.

At seven am I’ll catch the train

Look at the boats as I pass Dun Laoghaire

Dublin Bay opens up for the day

Tara St. empties the weary.

There’s no where better

Nowhere to be found

Dublin is the place I love

It’s like walking on sacred ground

Sacred ground.

Coffee in Bewleys on Grafton Street

Buy a CD or two in HMV

The streets are filling, the people warm

I’ll take a stroll along the Quays.

When evening comes I’ll head again

Travel out beside the sea

The Ferry might be leaving now

But I’m where I want to be.

There’s no where better

Nowhere to be found

Dublin is the place I love

It’s like walking on sacred ground

Sacred ground.

It’s like walking on  sacred ground

Sacred ground.

It’s like walking on sacred ground

Sacred ground.

It’s like walking on sacred ground

Sacred ground.

It’s like walking on sacred ground

Sacred ground.

About my song

I wrote the lyrics for this last month after taking the train into Dublin from my home. It was one of those that came really quickly and echoes how much our home city means to us. Gave it to John and he came up with a beautiful tuneful slow ballad. John’s demo here. The final band version will have key changes, nice solos and a choir on the end, but I think this sounds really good already, a good song is a good song. Tony.
