"Done My Time" lyrics
Done My Time
I’ve done the crime
Now I’ve goin’a do the time
I’ve done the crime
Now I’ve goin’a do the time
But nobody’s gonna tell me
That my life ain’t mine.
I worked all my life
I worked for thirty years
I worked all my life
I worked for thirty years
& then one day they fired me
I was close to tears.
I lost my home
Lost my family too
I lost my home
Lost my family too
Saw some money on the counter
Didn’t know what to do
It won’t be too long
Before they let me out
It won’t be too long
Before they let me out
Gonna run to the ocean
Gonna scream and shout
I done the crime
Now I’ve done my time
I done the crime
Now I’ve done my time
Now freedom is the thing
That tells me life is mine.

About my song
Blues song here, inspired (as many recent ones have been) by the effects of the recession. Basic story is job lost, tempted to steal to survive, lost it all, done the time and out now. Just showing how this could be any one of us, given certain circumstances, not just the usual suspects. Deeper message is that freedom is really all we have, cherish it, make good decisions, move on from the bad ones, stuff like that!
This song is going to be covered by both Good Intentions and Maggies Farm, so excited by that. Perhaps even more exciting is that ‘The Blues Train’ on Dublin City FM103.2 played my version a few weeks ago! hope you like it. T. (my version here, I play everything, like it or not!).
