Clive Barratt, a singer-songwriter living in Chilliwack, British Columbia, recently started work on his debut CD. The estimated completion date is September 2012.
“TONIGHT YOU’RE GOING OUT”, Clive’s debut single, was completed in May 2011, setting the standard for his debut CD, with an anticipated release date in September 2012.
Clive plays 12 and 6-string guitars, harmonica and lead vocals. Besides production, Rob Begg plays lead guitar, bass and keyboards. Drums and background vocals are provided by Roger Belanger. Roger spent 15 years playing with the Randy Bachman jazz band. Roger’s distinctive sounds, both vocal and percussive will be evident on several tracks on the debut album.
The concept for this song originated with Clive’s wife Carol, after she suggested he write about the typical pressures many women face these days; a subject that women could identify with. The song describes a dedicated but overworked woman, trying her best to keep up with family responsibilities, housework and commuting to an underpaying job, and feeling overstressed. Still, there is a bright side because as the day wears on, she is looking forward to her night out. The song expresses an interesting contrast of stress-laced, somewhat melancholic verses, offset by a bright and cheerful chorus.
“My objective”, Clive says, “is to make a CD of lyrically intrigueing songs with diverse rock influences, which fans will still be singing to themselves long after the stereo, MP3 player or radio has been turned off”.
In September 2011, TONIGHT YOU’RE GOING OUT was voted Song of the Week on TALENTCAST, a European, weekly, radio show, featuring original music of artists from around the world. Visit www.talentcast.nl and select archived show 2011-09-10 and 2011-09-17 to hear the two shows featuring Tonight You’re Going Out.
Clive’s debut CD will also include contributions by Kingston based drummer Gary Barratt on Dance The Night Away.
His debut CD is partly financed through the generous support of fans who discovered his music on SELLABAND; a fan-based, “crowd-funding” website which enables original artists to raise money and get their music produced and circulated. (www.sellaband.com)
Clive got his first guitar at the age of 12, had basic music training in high schools in the UK and Canada and wrote his first song at the age of 16. He has written over 55 songs in a variety of styles including rock, contemporary pop, folk-rock, blues-rock, country-rock, gospel and instrumental. Knowing that versatility is an invaluable trait, Clive performs solo, duet, trio or full band gigs on a casual basis.
Clive admits that he has his head in the clouds much of the time, earning a living as an pilot, but the creative world of music is his escape from the fatigue and stress of a demanding aviation career. Can’t wait to see what his CD holds in store for us.
